Our swimming lessons can also be therapeutic for kids with special needs, because water can help soothe sensory overload and give young swimmers relief from physical discomfort. Saf-T-Swim offers individual lessons for a variety of special needs. These classes are one on one with our trained and experienced swim instructors. The classes are offered once a week for 6 weeks or twice a week for 3 weeks. The advantage of having the one to one ratio allows the instructor to tailor the class to what the child needs. They have the ability to adapt their pace and teach skills in different ways to help the child succeed. Our lessons help all children develop a great sense of self-accomplishment and self-esteem.
While all children need to learn the basics of water safety, kids with special needs are especially vulnerable. They are often drawn to lakes, pools, and even bathtubs. That’s why drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death in kids with autism. These deaths can be avoided with basic swim lessons catered toward the needs of children with different needs.
At Saf-T-Swim Commack, we provide swimming lessons for special needs kids to help increase lung capacity, strengthen muscles, and build fundamental water safety skills. Children with special needs also process information in their own unique ways. Our caring and flexible instructors have extensive experience teaching kids with a variety of unique needs, including:
