- Adult water watcher or Certified Lifeguard
- Formal swimming instruction and water safety skills
- Proper isolation fencing
- A pool alarm, children’s personal alarm and gate alarm
- Self closing and self latching pool gates
- Interior door locks and door window alarms
- Phone by pool
- Life Ring, PFDs, Shepherds Hook
- Infant, Child/Adult CPR & First Aid Training
- Pool water safety rules posted
- Emergency 9-1-1 and CPR signs posted
- Toilet seat locks (infant and toddler)
- Buckets, wading pools, sinks and bathtubs emptied of standing water
- Safety cover for your spa or whirlpool
- Inflatable pools should be emptied and turned over or deflated when not in use
- Remember landscape ponds can be a danger as well
- If a child is missing, check the pool first
- Clear pool of all balls and toys to deter children from entering the pool
- Check drain covers for cracks, missing screws and that they meet Virginia Graeme Baker (VGB) standards.
